Spindle technology from maintenance practice
Deuschle Spindel-Service GmbH, based in Haigerloch (Baden-Württemberg), was founded in 1966 as a service provider and focused exclusively on the repair and maintenance of spindle systems from various manufacturers for decades. This activity formed the data technology basis for the subsequent development of its own products. By analyzing over 40,000 defective units, the company identified recurring causes of failure and design weaknesses in spindles available on the market.
Based on this empirical data, Deuschle made the transition from a pure repair business to a manufacturer. The design philosophy follows the "engineering based on failure analysis" approach. This means that the company's own product lines are primarily designed to address specific technical problems that have been identified in repair practice as the main causes of machine downtime, such as sealing problems or insufficient bearing rigidity.
Core competence: auxiliary spindles and motor spindles
Deuschle's product range is divided into segments that include both new designs and retrofit solutions for existing machine tools. One key area is the Air Line series. These are compact spindles that are driven by an air turbine rather than electricity. These units achieve speeds of up to 70,000 rpm. Technically, they often function as so-called high-speed replacement spindles: they are exchanged via the interface of a conventional machine tool in order to physically enable the cutting speed for engraving or micro-drilling with low-speed main spindles.
In addition to air-powered systems, Deuschle also manufactures electrically powered spindles. The Precision Line and Power Line include HF spindles and motor spindles with HSK interfaces for milling and grinding tasks up to 36,000 rpm. The Dressing Line was developed specifically for the grinding process. These dressing spindles are designed for high rigidity to ensure profile accuracy when dressing grinding wheels.
Active Air Seal Technology
One technical feature that sets Deuschle systems apart is their sealing technology, which was developed in response to frequent fluid damage. Statistical analyses of spindle failures show that the ingress of cooling lubricant into the bearings is one of the primary causes of defects.
Deuschle therefore integrates Active Air Seal technology into its systems. A specific arrangement of deep holes in the housing and a specially designed labyrinth seal on the spindle nose create a barrier air pressure of up to 2.0 bar. This increased internal pressure creates a barrier against the ingress of liquids and particles. The aim of this technical design is to increase the operating life in wet machining environments and reduce failures caused by bearing damage.
Kern GmbH – Your partner for services related to Deuschle spindles
The repair of spindles that operate with increased sealing air pressures or turbine drives requires compliance with specific test protocols. Kern GmbH's experience in the field of spindle technology is based on over 14,000 spindle repairs on more than 2,800 different spindle types. We carry out maintenance and repair work on Deuschle systems, paying particular attention to the integrity of the sealing components and the running accuracy of the bearings.
Our technical service aims to minimize downtime in your production. During overhaul, we ensure that the specific performance parameters once again comply with the manufacturer's specifications. Our internal processes often enable a prompt restoration of operational readiness. If you have any technical questions regarding the repair of your Deuschle spindles or would like to arrange a repair appointment, our customer service team will be happy to assist you at any time.
