Customized solutions for demanding metal cutting

Omlat S.p.A. embodies the flexibility and engineering expertise of Italian mechanical engineering in its purest form. Headquartered in Ceresole d'Alba, the company has been operating as a strategic partner for machine tool manufacturers for over 80 years. Omlat is positioned as a "customizer" in the field of spindles for metalworking. The focus is on the development of spindle systems that can be integrated precisely into the architecture of modern machining centers.

Omlat is particularly relevant when specific performance data is required without having to adapt the entire machine design. Whether for high-speed milling of aluminum in aviation or heavy-duty machining of steel, Omlat provides the technological answer with its extremely high vertical range of manufacture and variability. The core components, including stators and rotors, are largely produced in-house, which ensures direct quality control and independence from suppliers.

Spindles for every application

Omlat's product range for metalworking has a modular design and covers all essential processes—from milling and turning to grinding.

The OMC series comprises classic cylindrical electric spindles. These units are designed for integration into modern milling heads and offer high power density. They are suitable for both roughing steel and machining light metals, with flexible options for interfaces such as HSK or ISO.

Omlat offers the OMP series for machine designs with flat guides. These rectangular "block spindles" enable direct and rigid mounting, which is particularly advantageous in cases of high transverse forces. The portfolio is complemented by specialized solutions for grinding and HSC (high-speed cutting) applications, where Omlat relies on hybrid bearings (ceramic balls) to safely control speeds and thermal loads during aluminum machining.

The "Configurable Spindle"

Omlat relies on the technological concept of the "configurable spindle." Omlat Mechatronics has developed platforms that make it possible to significantly change the performance characteristics of a spindle without varying the external installation dimensions.

This solves a key problem in mechanical engineering: a manufacturer can offer different machine variants based on the same mechanical design. One example of this is the OMC-C series: based on the same basic design, this spindle can be configured for 15,000 rpm at 30 kW (for finishing operations) or for 10,000 rpm at 50 kW (for heavy cutting). This significantly reduces engineering costs, as the spindle housing does not need to be redesigned.

Kern GmbH – Your partner for services related to Omlat spindles

Maintaining these configurable systems requires a precise understanding of their specific design. Since Omlat offers many variants within a series, technical expertise is required during repairs in order to restore the exact parameters. Over 14,000 spindle repairs on more than 2,800 different spindle types demonstrate the expertise that Kern GmbH offers you as your service partner.

We know Omlat systems inside out – from the winding technology of the stators to the precision balancing of the rotors. Our fundamental goal is to offer our partners the shortest possible downtime and, ideally, an alternative to a production stoppage. In most cases, we actually succeed in doing so thanks to our optimized processes. Do you have any questions about the products and services offered by Kern GmbH – perhaps in direct connection with an Omlat spindle from the OMC or OMP series?

Simply contact our customer service department directly. We will be happy to arrange an appointment with you to inspect your Omlat spindle.
