The story behind KERN GmbH

More than 30 years of practical manual experience with spindles as well as in-depth knowledge of spindle technology and the symbiosis with the machine environment ensure that Managing Director and company founder Markus Kern advises his customers with the highest level of expertise and great passion. Kern, who is regarded as one of the pioneers of spindle full-service consulting, not only studied the subject intensively for decades, he also played a key role in developing the spindle failure analysis in the 1990s in collaboration with Swiss manufacturers and universities.

Even as a young spindle technician, Markus Kern was eager to get the maximum performance potential out of every spindle he repaired. After a further 10 years of practical technical experience with spindle repairs, he realized his long-standing vision: This - at the time an unknown concept that has since become established worldwide - is based on offering customers support where it was previously lacking: directly on site.

At that time, the topic of on-site spindle consulting was still in its infancy. Markus Kern was looking for a more holistic solution to adapt spindles more ideally to their operating conditions in the machine. Instead of just repairing the spindle without a concept and accepting recurring failures, he wanted to uncover the actual causes of failure and thus put an end to constant spindle failures.

A key component in ensuring this quality is the detailed documentation procedure for all repair work on the spindle. This is sent to the customer as a report once all repair work has been completed. This means that all steps and cost centers on the spindle can be traced with the utmost transparency.

At the same time, our central data management system enables us to access the full history of each spindle at any time. This allows us to make evaluations of long-term reasons for spindle failure, advise our customers accordingly and take improvement measures into account in future repairs.

Our locations

We have now established 4 branches worldwide, from where we support our international customers. Our warehouse in Burladingen, with its high-quality equipment and 2,800 m² size, is considered the most modern spindle repair facility in the world.

But all our other locations abroad are also very advanced and have the latest and best equipment. For example, the air is cleaned 7 times an hour everywhere to ensure a dust-free atmosphere.
