Important components of a spindle motor

A tool spindle is a high-precision device that is used to hold tools. The working or machine spindle component of a CNC-controlled cutting machine is dependent on regular maintenance and regular checks by appropriately trained specialists. The installation of spare parts or the repair of individual parts should also generally be carried out professionally.

In the following, we would like to briefly explain the tasks of the stator and rotor in the motor of such a spindle.

The stator - static element inside the motor

Regardless of whether it is part of a motor or a generator, a stator is always the fixed part of a machine. The task of the stator is to generate or guide a magnetic field. The arrangement of the stator varies depending on the design of the respective motor. For example, there are motors in which the stator is located in the inner area. These are generally referred to as external rotors.

If the stator is located around the outside of the rotor, it can also form the housing as such.

The rotor - the moving element

The moving element that is guided by the magnetic field is the rotor. This forms the counterpart to the stator. The rotor itself is an electromagnet that moves in the magnetic field of the stator through the repulsion of like magnetic poles and the attraction of unlike magnetic poles. This converts electronic energy into mechanical energy.

As the magnetic component is very important here, the rotor is laminated. Otherwise, the constant remagnetization would lead to disproportionately large eddy current losses. As a result, the energy consumption of the entire machine would quickly rise sharply.

The combination makes the difference

The rotor and stator must work together perfectly - otherwise the entire spindle cannot deliver the required power.
